The Belief Gap Diagnostic

Before you rely on it, examine it.

Every organisation runs on beliefs about how the world works. A belief gap is the distance between what an organisation believes and what it can actually substantiate. Left unexamined, that distance becomes strategy, and strategy built on an unexamined belief is exposure.

The concept behind the diagnostic is set out in full in The Belief Gap, the standing reference for this work.

The Belief Gap Diagnostic is a private examination of the organisation. Where the concern is one consequential AI-supported decision, document or workflow, that is this same diagnostic applied to that concern, not a separate product. The examination is aimed at the place where an unexamined assumption would do the most harm if it were scaled.

The work begins with an exploratory conversation. If an examination is the right door, it proceeds through a 45-minute conversation with the person who holds decision authority for the concern. Ken reads that conversation in private against the twelve belief pairs and the Thirteenth Finding set out in Our Common Future – Now. Only after his read of the conversation is the public record set beside it: published claims and target history, proxy compensation criteria, filings, certification registry states, and retired or lapsed commitments. Anything the record surfaces that the discussion did not evidence is reported as surfaced by the record, not evidenced in the discussion, and is never scored as a finding on the record alone. The written report is the deliverable, and a closing discussion works through what it found, so that leadership can see which of its beliefs it can substantiate before a decision, a claim, or a disclosure is scaled.

The reader who belongs here has usually arrived through a room, a referral, or a conversation. The concern may also arrive in a form none of the words on this page quite names. That is expected, and it is what the first conversation is for: the situation described in your own terms, and the examination shaped around it if an examination is warranted.

The fee is private. It is quoted after the exploratory conversation, once the scope is clear.

Better decisions begin with better diagnosis.
